We at Mansion House often get asked why our club isn’t called Mount Vernon.

Well, the fact is, we actually get our name from Mount Vernon, in that George Washington’s Estate was comprised of five farms that were originally included in the land between two waterways, Dogue Run and Little Hunting Creek.

Those farms included four working farms; River, Dogue Run, Union, and Muddy Hole along with its crown jewel, the Mansion House Farm. Mansion House Farm included Washington’s home, gardens, lawns and the entirety of the neighborhood surrounding this very pool. During Washington’s lifetime, the five farms grew in size to almost 8,000 acres, or 12 square miles, and include the majority of the pools in the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL).
